Time Bomb

Yesterday was like any other day after school: ride bikes home, me barking at the kids that -- yes -- just like every other day in their life they have to do homework before playing outside. Getting snacks out for everyone. Going through backpacks, doing spelling, practicing ABBA patterns, etc. I walk past the kitchen counter and stop dead in my tracks. My Trainer Momma radar was in full throttle and detected something completely out of place:

Confusion ripped through my brain. What? How? Why? Where in the heck did those Peanut M&M's come from? Who would bring that sort of contraband material through the door of MY house? I look around. Everyone is behaving normally. This is baffling. How could they? Didn't they know there was a freakin' whole bag of M&M's in the house? How could they act like it was no big deal or something? Hello?!?

After my heart rate returned to normal and my breathing regulated, my prefrontal cortex began functioning again and I started to solve the mystery. It turns out that the Doc brought them home, a friend had bought them for him. The Doc has been on quite the roll when it comes to weight loss and health as of late (he's lost 40 lbs! That's my man!). The last thing he wanted was a bag of M&M's burning a hole in his pocket. So, he threw them on the counter in order to be rid of them and they were officially up for grabs.

Of course, we just couldn't let them sit there without figuring out how many calories were in one serving. I know, it's pathetic, but we just can't help ourselves. We have no TV, so this is what do for fun. We call it bonding.

We broke out with the food scale (What? Doesn't everyone have one of those?) and the Doc measured out exactly one serving -- 1.5 ounces of Peanut M&M's. Here's the verdict:

From Collages

The point is, one serving is nothing in my book. That one handful for me is just a warm up, just a tossin' 'em back mindlessly, until I finish off the entire bag, NO PROBLEM. We decided that the M&M's were officially not worth it and they went up in the cupboard to save for a cookie decorating day (yes, my kids occasionally eat candy -- I'm not that bad).

As I post this, I know I am putting myself out there to seem like a fanatic. But, that was already established quite some time ago, right?:)

Seriously. I would have been like, "Sweet, M&M's!". Okay, a few weeks ago I would've. But, I would have been seriously tempted...

Blast. I love peanut m&m's! I always knew they were dangerous, but now I'll definitely think twice before indulging in half a bag! haha

That is EXACTLY my problem. "That one handful for me is just a warm up..." I have never counted calories and I think it's time to start. Love your blog. I've been reading for a week now.
